American surgeon who in 1974 developed the Heimlich maneuver, a technique of ejecting an obstruction from the trachea of a choking victim.
However, heimlich can also be used to define something that is secret, concealed, unknown, or threatening.
She was voted “most likely to need a heimlich maneuver if you tell her a joke” when she graduated from law school.
