hemolytic uremic syndrome n.
A syndrome in which hemolytic anemia and thrombocytopenia occur with acute renal failure, marked in children by sudden gastrointestinal bleeding, urine that contains red blood cells and is scanty in volume, and microangiopathic hemolytic anemia; in adults it is associated with complications of pregnancy following normal delivery, with oral contraceptive use, or with infection.

Hemolytic uremic syndrome is always a great word to know.
