Hol·bein   (hōl'bīn, hôl'-)   
German painter. His religious works include altarpieces for the Augsburg Cathedral (1493) and for the church of Saint Sebastian (1516), also in Augsburg. His son Hans (1497?-1543), known as "the Younger," is noted for his religious paintings and portraits, such as Anne of Cleves (1539).
