a building, rooms, etc., used by Shiʿites for ceremonies, especially during the first 10 days of Muharram.
2.
a large tomb.

1830–40; < Hindi imāmbārā < Arabic imām imam + Hindi bārā enclosure; compare Sanskrit vāṭa fence, enclosure
