Lying in front of the eastern foothills of the Cascade Range on the edge of the Great Basin, Redmond was founded in 1904 by pioneers Frank and Josephine Redmond, who constructed their home near an irrigation canal right-of-way. After the arrival of the railroad in 1911, the city developed as a service and shipping centre for cattle and lumber. Redmond is the site of Roberts Field, formerly the World War II-era Redmond Army Air Base and now a commercial airport serving three counties in central Oregon. Inc. 1910. Pop.
