a high-speed switch, used in experimental computers, that operates on the basis of a radiative phenomenon (Jo·sephson effect) exhibited by a pair of superconductors separated by a thin insulator.

Josephson Junction definition

electronics
A type of electronic circuit capable of switching at very high speeds when operated at temperatures approaching absolute zero. The low power dissipation of a Josepshson Junction makes it useful in high density computer circuits.
