Khwarizmi   (kwär'ĭz-mē)  Pronunciation Key 
Arab mathematician and astronomer who compiled an early work on arithmetic and the oldest astronomical tables. His work was widely translated into Latin, introducing Arabic numerals and algebraic concepts to Western mathematics. The word algorithm is derived from his name.
