Lampadrome

Lam"pa*drome\, n. [Gr. ?; ?, ?, torch + ? course, race, fr. ? to run.] (Gr. Antiq.) A race run by young men with lighted torches in their hands. He who reached the goal first, with his torch unextinguished, gained the prize.
