Leáriche /l&-rEsh,/ René (1879–1955), French surgeon. Leriche was a pioneer in neurological and vascular surgery. He is celebrated for devising several new operations.He introduced such surgical procedures as surgical removal of the sheath of an artery containing sympathetic nerve fibers for the relief of paresthesia and vasomotor disturbances in 1916, excision ofan artery for arterial thrombosis in 1937, and obliteration of the abdominal aorta in 1940.
