London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE)

A profit-seeking, shareholder-owned exchange that offers trading in a wide range of derivative securities, including futures and options on interest rates, equity options, and agricultural commodity contracts. LIFFE merged with the London Traded Options Market in 1992 and with the London Commodity Exchange in 1996. The exchange was established in 1982 as an open outcry market but by 2000 had transferred all of its contracts to an electronic platform known as LIFFE CONNECT.
