marine archaeology

noun
the branch of archaeology that deals with the recovery of ancient objects found beneath the sea, as shipwrecks or remains from submerged islands, and with the techniques of underwater exploration, excavation, and retrieval.
Also called nautical archaeology, underwater archaeology.
