maze
c.1300, "delusion, bewilderment," possibly from O.E. *mæs, which is suggested by the compound amasod "amazed" (see
amaze
). Perhaps related to Norw. dial. mas "exhausting labor." Meaning "labyrinth" first recorded late 14c.
