mesocaval shunt mes·o·ca·val shunt (měz'ə-kā'vəl, měs'-)
Anastomosis or graft anastomosis of the side of the superior mesenteric vein to the proximal end of the divided inferior vena cava performed as a means of controlling portal hypertension.
