metabisulfite test met·a·bi·sul·fite test (mět'ə-bī-sŭl'fīt')
A test for sickle-cell hemoglobin in which red blood cells are deoxygenated by the addition of sodium metabisulfite and the cells containing the defective hemoglobin assume a sickle shape.
