Zi·a ul-Haq  (zē'ə ŏŏl-hāk', -häk')  Pakistani politician. An army general, he led the military coup d'état that overthrew President Ali Bhutto (1977). As president (1978-1988) he postponed general elections, had Bhutto executed, and introduced strict Islamic law. He was killed in an airplane explosion. |
