Mont·calm de Saint-Ve·ran   (mŏnt-käm' də sāɴ'vā-räɴ', môɴ-kälm')   
French commander in Canada during the French and Indian War. He repelled a British attack on Fort Ticonderoga (1758) and held Quebec until the Battle of the Plains of Abraham (1759), in which he and the British general James Wolfe were killed.
