town, Hauts-de-Seine departement, Paris region, southern suburb of Paris, in north-central France. The area, recorded as Mons Rubicus (Latin: "Red Mountain"), from the local reddish soil, in ancient charters, was divided in 1860-Le Petit Montrouge was absorbed into the 14th arrondissement (administrative division) of Paris, and the remainder formed the commune of Montrouge. It has printing and bookbinding establishments and manufactures surgical instruments, radios and televisions, and perfume. A women's teachers' college is located there. Pop. (1999) 37,733; (2005 est.) 42,200
