Ner"ka\, n. [Russ. niarka, prob. fr. native name.] (Zo["o]l.) The most important salmon of Alaska (Oncorhinchus nerka), ascending in spring most rivers and lakes from Alaska to Oregon, Washington, and Idaho; -- called also red salmon, redfish, blueback, and sawqui.
