Ne·ru·da  (ně-rōō'də, -dä)  Chilean poet and diplomat whose literary tone of despair, evident in his early works, evolved into one reflecting the socialist commitment of the government of Salvador Allende. He won the 1971 Nobel Prize for Literature. |
