Neufeld capsular swelling Neu·feld capsular swelling (noi'fělt)
An increase in the opacity and visibility of the capsule of encapsulated organisms resulting from exposure to specific, agglutinating, anticapsular antibodies. Also called Neufeld reaction, quellung phenomenon, quellung test.
