n.
A muscle having two bellies attached to an intermediate tendon, with origin by the inferior belly from the upper border of the scapula, with insertion by the superior belly into the hyoid bone, with nerve supply from the upper cervical nerve through the cervical ansa, and whose action depresses the hyoid.
