Orwell, George definition

The nom de plume of Eric Blair, a twentieth-century English author best known for Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four.

Note: Nineteen Eighty-Four is a powerful depiction of totalitarianism; hence, the adjective Orwellian has been applied to government actions that suppress freedom or distort truth.
