  1. An artery having its origin as the first paired branch from the abdominal aorta inferior to the diaphragm and with distribution to the diaphragm; inferior phrenic artery.

  2. Either of a pair of small arteries given off from the thoracic aorta just superior to the diaphragm and with distribution to the diaphragm; superior phrenic artery.
