Picus

We are told by Ovid that he was changed into a woodpecker (picus) by Circe, whose love he had slighted.

Picus begot Faunus, the second king of Laurentum; and he too is, or was, a god with them.

And sitting on the throne was the image of King Picus, clad in royal apparel, and bearing a shield on his left arm.

Faunus' father was Picus; and he boasts himself, Saturn, thy son; thou art the first source of their blood.

Picus, the son of Saturn and father of Faunus, was a woodland divinity, gifted with prophetic powers.
