Placophora

Pla*coph"o*ra\, n. pl. [NL., from Gr. ?, ?, tablet + ? to bear.] (Zo["o]l.) A division of gastropod Mollusca, including the chitons. The back is covered by eight shelly plates. Called also Polyplacophora. See Illust. under Chiton, and Isopleura.
