pneumatocele pneu·ma·to·cele (nōō'mə-tō-sēl', nyōō'-, nōō-māt'ə-, nyōō-)

  1. A emphysematous or gaseous swelling.

  2. See pneumonocele.

  3. A thin-walled cavity formed within the lung, characteristic of staphylococcus pneumonia.
