Providencia Prov·i·den·ci·a (prŏv'ĭ-děn'sē-ə) n. A genus of motile, peritrichous, nonsporeforming, aerobic or facultatively anaerobic bacteria containing gram-negative rods; it includes the species which can occur in urinary tract infections.
