purpura fulminans purpura ful·mi·nans (fŭl'mə-nānz')
A severe and fatal form of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura that occurs especially in children, usually following an infectious illness, and that is characterized by low blood pressure, fever, and disseminated intravascular coagulation.
