an abnormal narrowing of the valve at the outlet from the stomach, preventing normal passage of food into the small intestine.

First recorded in 1895–1900

Sometimes with pyloric stenosis the stomach is reduced in size.

Cicatricial stenosis is the most common form of non-malignant pyloric stenosis.

As a rule, in cases of pyloric stenosis the muscular coat of the stomach is hypertrophied.

Only one of the varieties of pyloric stenosis can claim consideration as an independent disease.

Other forms of pyloric stenosis than the cancerous and the cicatricial are rare.
