quadruple  (v.)
1375, from L. quadruplare "make fourfold," from quadruplus (n.) "quadruple," from quadri- "four" + -plus "fold." Quadruplets "four children in one birth" is first recorded 1787. The abbreviation of it to quad is first attested 1851.
