Rhodesian trypanosomiasis Rho·de·sian trypanosomiasis (rō-dē'zhən)
An acute type of African trypanosomiasis that progresses rapidly and is caused by Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense, transmitted by tsetse flies. Also called acute African sleeping sickness, acute trypanosomiasis.
