Roentgen   (rěnt'gən, rěnt'jən)  Pronunciation Key 
German physicist who discovered x-rays in 1895 and went on to develop x-ray photography, which revolutionized medical diagnosis. In 1901 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for physics.
