Savonarola, Girolamo

  1. An Italian religious reformer of the fifteenth century. Savonarola spent most of his career in Florence , Italy , where his fiery oratory whipped up popular fervor against corruption of church and state. He was eventually convicted of heresy and hanged and burned.
