Schmidt-Lanterman incisure (shmĭt'-)

Any of the funnel-shaped breaks in the myelin sheath of nerve fibers, each corresponding to strands of cytoplasm that separate the two membranes composing the myelin sheath. Also called Lanterman's incisure.
