Seaborg   (sē'bôrg')  Pronunciation Key 
American chemist who led the team that discovered the element plutonium in 1941. In 1944 they discovered americium and curium, and by bombarding these two elements with alpha rays, Seaborg produced the elements berkelium and californium. In 1951 Seaborg shared the Nobel Prize for chemistry with American atomic scientist Edwin McMillan, who had predicted the existence of plutonium in 1939.
