oval 
1570, from M.L. ovalis "egg-shaped" (cf. Fr. oval, 1546), lit. "of or pertaining to an egg," from L. ovum "egg," from PIE *owyo-/*oyyo- "egg" (see egg). The classical L. word was ovatus.
