A muscle with origin from the flexor retinaculum of the wrist and from the ulnar side of the first metacarpal bone, with insertion to the base of the proximal phalanx of the thumb, with nerve supply from the median and ulnar nerves, and whose action flexes the proximal phalanx of the thumb.
