shrub 
O.E. scrybb "brushwood, shrubbery," a rare and late word, possibly from a Scand. source (cf. dial. Dan. skrub "brushwood," Norw. skrubba "dwarf tree"). Presumably related to N.Fris. skrobb "broom plant, brushwood;" W.Flem. schrobbe "climbing wild pea." Shrubbery first attested 1748.
