Sin"o*pite\, n. [F., fr. L. sinopis (sc. terra), a red earth or ocher found in Sinope, a town in Paphlagoma, on the Black Sea, Gr. ????.] (Min.) A brickred ferruginous clay used by the ancients for red paint.
