Robert William (1807–1873), British surgeon. Smith is best known for his description of generalized neurofibromatosis, which was included in his 1849 treatise onthe pathology, diagnosis, and treatment of neuroma. He described the Smith fracture in 1847 in a treatise on fractures and dislocations.
