So·mo·za De·bay·le (sə-mō'zə də-bī'lā, sō-mō'sä dě-bī'lě) Nicaraguan politician who headed Nicaragua's army and took over the presidency in 1963. In 1979 Somoza was overthrown by the Sandinista National Liberation Front, and he was later assassinated in Paraguay.
