Swatow

Hindered from returning to Swatow, I now decided to join these brethren in the Ningpo work, and set out at once upon the journey.

I mention Hongkong only to make more clear my description of Swatow, its northern neighbor.

Swatow is the third port in the amount thus obtained, itself furnishing two to three millions of the aggregate result.

It is the converging point of all the trade that reaches Swatow from a hundred miles to the south and the west.

Chao-yang is a larger city than Swatow; the Chinese count it as containing a population of three hundred thousand.
