third peroneal muscle n.
A muscle with origin in common with the long extensor muscle of the toes, with insertion into the base of the fifth metatarsal bone, with nerve supply from a branch of the peroneal nerve, and whose action assists in the dorsal flexion of the foot. Also called third fibular muscle.
