public, coeducational institution of higher learning in Akron, Ohio, U.S. While the university is known for its research in polymer engineering and science, it also offers a curriculum of liberal arts, business, and education courses, including master's degree programs. Doctoral degrees are available in a number of fields, including sociology, urban studies, polymer science and engineering, education, engineering, and chemistry. The school of law opened in 1959, and the nursing school opened in 1967.
