It comprises the present departement of Vaucluse. Its capital was Carpentras. Comtat-Venaissin is a picturesque territory, varying in scenery between the foothills of the Alps and large plains, which are irrigated by canals supplied by the Rhone, Durance, and Sorgue rivers.
