Walloon 
1530, from M.Fr. Wallon, lit. "foreigner," of Gmc. origin (cf. O.H.G. walh "foreigner"). The people are of Gaulish origin and speak a Fr. dialect. The name is a form of the common appellation of Gmc. peoples to Romanic-speaking neighbors. See Vlach; also cf. Welsh.
