Wegener, Friedrich (1907–1990), Germanpathologist. Wegener first described Wegener's granulomatosis in 1936, issuing another report in 1939. The disease was actually first described by German pathologist Heinz Karl Ernst Klinger in 1931.

Wegener's granulomatosis We·ge·ner's granulomatosis (vā'gə-nərz)
n.
A rare fatal immune disorder, occurring mainly in people in their 40's and 50's, and characterized by granulomatous vasculitis of the small vessels, progressive ulceration of the upper respiratory tract, purulent discharge from the nose, obstruction of the nasal area, and sometimes discharge from the ear, spitting of blood, pulmonary cavitation, and fever.
