Witt·gen·stein (vĭt'gən-shtīn', -stīn) Austrian philosopher who taught in England and who had a major influence on 20th-century philosophy. His main works, Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus (1921) and Philosophical Investigations (1953), explore the relation between language and the world.
