wood-boring beetle

any of about 25,000 species of beetles (insect order Coleoptera) whose common name is derived from the extremely long antennae of most species. These beetles occur throughout the world but are most numerous in the tropics. They range in size from 2 to 152 mm (less than 18 to about 6 inches). However, these lengths may double or triple when the antennae are included.
