Origin:
1840–50; perhaps < Dhurga (Australian Aboriginal language spoken on the New South Wales coast, from Jervis Bay to Bermagui) yara- teeth + -may noun suffix; borrowed into Australian pidgins, used by white settlers, thence into other Aboriginal languages
